Nick Frasersmith

Head Coach-Senior Group Coach


Nick Frasersmith - Nicks coaching career started in the early 1980’s, coaching in the summer club league for seven years and a graduate assistant coach for Metropolitan State College for one year. In 1988, Nick founded Riptide Aquatics and worked as head coach until 1993. He helped form the Colorado Stars in the fall of 1999 and was head coach through October 2008. While Head Coach of the Colorado Stars Nick lead the team to 7 Short Course and 5 Long Course State Championships. 

Nick has been a member of the 21 time State Champion and 4 Time NISCA National Champion Regis Jesuit Boys High School coaching staff as an assistant since 1985, taking on the Head Coach position in 2013. Nick has been the Head Coach for the 4 time State and 1 time Independent School NISCA National Champion Regis Jesuit Girls from 2003 through present.

In 2009 Nick started Denver Swim Academy with Carla Andrews.

Over the years Nick has coached Junior National Champions, State Champions, Swimmers of the Year, Junior National and Senior National qualifiers along with Olympic Trial qualifiers. He has coached USA National Junior Team members as well as several National Select swimmers.

Nick was selected as National Girls High School Coach of the year in 2013 and The Denver Post Colorado High School Girls Coach of the year in 2007, 2011, 2013 and 2014. 

His philosophy for a successful swimmer is the combination of sound technique, hard swimming, and a good social environment. Swimming is FUN!!

Chris Koerber

Head Age Group Coach - Blue Group coach



Chris Koerber – Chris has 14 years of coaching experience, most notably as head coach of the CAC Stingrays.  Following the Stingrays, he spent some time with Aces at Cherokee Trail and then as head age group coach with the AFA Falfins.  He also brings a sample of high school experience, heading the brand new girl’s and boy’s teams at Cherokee Trail and most recently, helping with the junior varsity girls at Cherry Creek.  Throughout, he’s been fortunate to have coached some very talented athletes, including several State Champions, Zone finalists, and a Boys High School State Champion.  In 2004, he was honored by his peers as Age Group Coach of the Year.  Chris’ coaching philosophy is simple; stress the fundamentals.  He also believes in building a team friendly atmosphere, providing a positive learning environment, and encouraging swimmers to be active participants in their training.

Ryan Caple

Senior 2 & 3 and Silver Group Coach



Ryan Caple comes to us with an extensive swimming background at all levels of the sport.  He swam both summer club and USA age group with local clubs and spent the last six years of age group/senior swimming under Nick Frasersmith.  At Heritage High School, he was a two-time All American, captain and the 2003 CHSAA High School Swimmer of the Year.  Ryan went on to swim at the US Coast Guard Academy where again he was a DIII All-American Breaststroker and captain of both the swim and water polo teams.   Ryan has been involved with private stroke instruction the past two years and is currently in the process of obtaining his ASCA certifications and working towards his Masters in Public Administration.  His philosophy is based on solid practice habits with correct biomechanics.  Ryan believes that swimming is not about the individual but about the team experience and the lessons learned outside the water.  He will be working with both the senior and age group programs and looks forward to being the newest of member of the experienced coaching staff.  

Tori Trees Smith

Coach - White Group



Tori Trees Smith – After a successful USS and collegiate swimming career, Tori began coaching as a graduate assistant on deck at the University of Texas at Austin.  She married and moved to Houston in 1989 and assumed the Aquatics Director position for the Houstonian Club.  In Houston, she coached the summer league and USS teams for 4 years.  Tori moved to Denver in 2000 with her family and served as an age group coach for the Greenwood Athletic Club until 2006.   After moving to Parker, Colorado in 2007, she began coaching the Colorado STARs age groupers (ages 6-8).  In 2008 she served as assistant coach for the Regis Girls JV High School team.  Tori swam competitively for Lakeside Swim Team in Louisville, Kentucky growing up.  She is a graduate of the University of Texas, an individual national champion in the 200yd backstroke and a member of four NCAA team championships.  Tori was a four-time United States National Team Member, and a member of the 1984 United States Olympic Team where she placed 5th in the 200 meter backstroke.  She enjoys helping the swimmers develop to their fullest potential while having fun.

Kevan Valenzuela

Assistant Coach


Kevan is from Southern California, particularly the Imperial Valley. He graduated with high honors from Brawley Union High School in 2009. Kevan started coaching in May of 2010 for Imperial Valley Desert Aquatic (IVDA) for whom he swam with throughout high school. For the past 2 years Kevan was Head Site Coach at IVDA Holtville satellite program. During the past couple summers Kevan ran Summer Recreation Swim Programs in Calipatria and Holtvile, Ca. Each of these had 30-40 swimmers varying in ability. This past summer Kevan acted as Interim Head Coach for IVDA. While coaching he attended Imperial Valley College and graduated with an associates in Mathematics and Engineering. Kevan has moved to Colorado to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado in Denver.  

Ben Freeman

Strength and Conditioning Specialist

Ben is a graduate of Colorado State University and the University Of Iowa College Of Medicine Physical Therapy program.  As the owner and founder of Peak Energy Performance Therapy PC, Ben has specialized in the coaching, performance training and rehabilitation of youth and professional athletes for over 12 years.  Having a strong background in bio-mechanics and sports nutrition, he understands the movements and injuries, as well as the nutritional demands of athletes in their specific sports.  By receiving additional training in manual therapy and spinal manipulation he is able to restore function and mobility quickly and get athletes back to competition at a much faster rate.   Ben is also a nationally certified strength and conditioning specialist.  He has completed speed and plyometric training at the United States Olympic Training center in Colorado Springs and baseball specific training with some of the premiere strength coaches in the major leagues.  

In addition to sports physical therapy and performance training, Ben is a consultant for, and speaks to athletes, sports teams, schools and clubs on:

  • Sports nutrition for performance and recovery
  • Sports injury prevention and treatment
  • Goal defining and road-mapping for success
