Head Coach-Senior Group Coach
Nick Frasersmith - Nick's coaching career started in the early 1980's, coaching in a summer club league for seven years and a graduate assistant coach for Metropolitan State College for one year, In 1988, Nick founded Riptide Aquatics and worked as head coach until 1993. He helped form the Colorado Stars in the fall of 1999 and was head coach through October 2008. While Head Coach of the Colorado Stars, Nick lead the team to seven Short Course and five Long Course State Championships.
Nick has been a member of the 21 time State Champion and four time NISCA National Champion Regis Jesuit Boys High School coaching staff as an assistant since 1985, taking on the Head Coach position in 2013. Nick has been the Head Coach for the four time State and one time Independent School NISCA National Champion Regis Jesuit Girls team from 2003 to the present. Nick was selected as the National Girls High School Coach of the Year in 2013 and the Denver Post Colorado High School Girls Coach of the Year in 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
In 2009, Nick started Denver Swim Academy with Carla Andrews and Chris Koerber. Over the years, Nick has coached Junior National Champions, State Champions, Swimmers of the Year, Junior National and Senior National qualifiers, along with Olympic Trial qualifiers. He has coached USA National Junior Team members as well as several National Select swimmers.
His philosophy for a successful swimmer is the combination of sound technique, hard swimming, and a good social environment. Swimming is FUN!!
Head Age Group Coach - Blue Group Coach
Chris Koerber – Chris has over 20 years
of coaching experience with a few teams in Colorado, but has
definitely found a comfortable home the past 7 years with Denver
Swim Academy. He appreciates the DSA coaching staff's commitment
and dedication to their swimmers and the sport. He is also a firm
believer in the team's philosophy of stressing quality fundamentals
and practice habits at an early age. This approach, as he
says, will help with short-term success but more
importantly, long-term growth. Chris also enjoys the
team building atmosphere and positive learning environment that has
been established at DSA.
Chris admits that he' s been fortunate to have coached
some very talented and special athletes, including
many State Champions and Zone finalists. In 2004, 2012,

Tori Trees Smith
Coach - White Group
Tori Trees Smith – After a successful USS
and collegiate swimming career, Tori began coaching as a graduate
assistant on deck at the University of Texas at Austin. She
married and moved to Houston in 1989 and assumed the Aquatics
Director position for the Houstonian Club. In Houston, she
coached the summer league and USS teams for 4 years.
Tori moved to Denver in 2000 with her family and served as an
age group coach for the Greenwood Athletic Club until
2006. After moving to Parker, Colorado in 2007, she
began coaching the Colorado STARs age groupers (ages 6-8). In
2008 she served as assistant coach for the Regis Girls JV High
Tori swam competitively for Lakeside Swim Team in Louisville,
Kentucky growing up. She is a graduate of the University of
Texas where she was an individual national champion in
the 200 yard backstroke and a member of four NCAA team
championships. Tori was a four-time United States National
Team Member and a member of the 1984 United States Olympic Team
where she placed 5th in the 200 meter backstroke.
She enjoys helping the swimmers develop to their fullest
potential while having fun.
Silver/Black Group Coach
A native to Colorado Swimming, Coach Kelsey Ida returns as an
assistant coach with Denver Swim Academy this year. From 2006 to
2010, Ida swam for the University of Nebraska, training as a
backstroke specialist under Olympic gold medalist Pablo
Morales. She also competed for Oxford University and was
member of the 2012 Cross-Channel team. Ida has coached
nearly 300 developmental and age-group swimmers in her career,
stressing technique and stroke efficiency. She was recently
named a 2015 Fellow of the American Swim Coaches Association, and
is a recipient of the 2015 Doc Counsilman Creative Coaching Award.
In addition to her time at the pool, Ida works as a consultant in
international development & humanitarian relief.
Kevan is from the Imperial Valley, California. Kevan started coaching in May of 2010 for Imperial Valley Desert Aquatic (IVDA) for whom he swam with throughout high school. For the past 2 years Kevan was Head Site Coach at IVDA Holtville satellite program. During the summer Kevan has run Summer Recreation Swim Programs in Calipatria (’12 &’13) and Holtville (‘14). Each of these had 40-50 swimmers varying in ability. During the summer of '14, Kevan acted as Interim Head Coach for IVDA.
Kevan has a strong passion for swimming and believes in technique and high effort as the platforms for long term success. He has coached all levels of swimming from swim lessons to Jr. National Qualifiers.
Kelly grew up swimming in Colorado, learning at a young age under the guidance of Coach Chris and then Coach Nick. From 2012 to 2016, Kelly swam at UC Berkeley with the Golden Bears. During her time at Cal, Kelly was a point scorer in the 400IM for the 2015 NCAA Championship team. In 2016, she was named captain and became a two time All-American at the NCAA Championships. Upon moving back to Denver, Kelly started working as a wedding planner, with her eye on getting involved swimming again. Kelly’s goal is to help swimmers reach their full potential by using their own strengths to their advantage and by having fun!

Owner, Physical Therapist, Certified Strength and Conditioning
Ben is a graduate of Colorado State University and the University
Of Iowa College Of Medicine Physical Therapy program. As the
owner and founder of Peak Energy Performance Therapy PC, Ben has
specialized in the coaching, performance training and
rehabilitation of youth and professional athletes for over 12
years. Having a strong background in bio-mechanics and sports
nutrition, he understands the movements and injuries, as well as
the nutritional demands of athletes in their specific sports.
By receiving additional training in manual therapy and spinal
manipulation he is able to restore function and mobility quickly
and get athletes back to competition at a much faster rate.
Ben is also a nationally certified strength and conditioning
specialist. He has completed speed and plyometric training at
the United States Olympic Training center in Colorado Springs and
baseball specific training with some of the premiere strength
coaches in the major leagues.
In addition to sports physical therapy and performance training,
Ben is a consultant for, and speaks to athletes, sports teams,
schools and clubs on:
- Sports nutrition for performance and recovery
- Sports injury prevention and treatment
- Goal defining and road-mapping for success
